Backup & Restore
Your data is local. AllMy Ledger stores everything on your computer. We can't recover lost files — only you have your data. Back up regularly.
Where Your Data Is Stored
By default, AllMy Ledger saves your company file to:
C:\Users\YourName\Documents\AllMy Ledger\
Your company file has an .aldb extension. It contains all your accounts, transactions, customers, and reports.
How to Back Up
Copy your company file to another location. That's it.
- Close AllMy Ledger
- Open File Explorer and find your company file
- Copy the
.aldbfile - Paste it to an external drive, USB stick, or cloud folder
You can also use File → Backup in AllMy Ledger to create a backup copy with the current date in the filename.
Good backup locations
- External hard drive or USB drive
- Cloud storage folder (Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive)
- Network drive or home server
How to Restore
- Open AllMy Ledger
- Go to File → Open
- Browse to your backup file
- Open it
You're now working from the backup copy. To make it your main file, save it to your Documents folder.
Best Practices
- Back up weekly. Set a calendar reminder.
- Keep copies in at least 2 places. External drive plus cloud is a good combination.
- Test your backups. Open a backup file occasionally to make sure it works.
- Keep old versions. Don't overwrite your only backup — keep a few in case you need to go back further.
