Simple vs Accountant Mode
AllMy Ledger has two modes. Both use the same double-entry accounting system underneath — the difference is what you see on screen.
Simple Mode
Simple Mode is designed for people who aren't accountants. It hides the complexity of double-entry bookkeeping and uses everyday language:
- Transactions use income, expense, and transfer instead of debits and credits
- Journal entries are hidden
- The chart of accounts shows simplified categories
- Reports use plain language
Best for: freelancers, solo consultants, and small business owners who need invoicing and expense tracking without the accounting jargon.
Accountant Mode
Accountant Mode gives you full control over the double-entry system:
- Full debit and credit columns on every transaction
- Manual journal entries
- Complete chart of accounts with all account types
- Detailed reports with account-level breakdowns
Best for: bookkeepers, CPAs, and anyone who wants full visibility into the accounting entries.
How to Switch
Go to Settings and change the Mode setting. The change takes effect immediately.
Switching modes doesn't change your data. Every transaction is stored as a proper double-entry record regardless of which mode you use. You're just changing the view.
Not sure which to pick? Start with Simple Mode. You can switch to Accountant Mode anytime, and your data stays exactly the same.
